The eight of pentacles is about diligence, learning new skills, apprenticeship, and detail-oriented craftsmanship. Many goals worth reaching cannot be attained by one grand gesture; they require many small steps, patience, persistence, and commitment to reach. You may need to go back to school or take a class in order to reach your goal. Measure twice, cut once. If the eight of pentacles appears in a reading, it may refer to the need to take on a class or an apprenticeship, or otherwise obtain new skills. It may suggest that a detail-oriented approach will serve you well. You may need to completely immerse yourself in a project in order to get the results you desire. There may be a difficult and time-consuming, but rewarding task on the horizon. My eight of pentacles depicts a boy creating mosaic art pieces. He has already completed seven and is working on the final one. He has retreated away from others under a tree for the afternoon to be alone with his craft. Not only is he making multiple pentacles, but each piece is a mosaic--made of many tiny precisely-placed tiles. He also appears to be on a college campus, symbolizing the more traditional education aspect of this card. He is surrounded by his work, completely immersed, so that he may perfect his craft. Don't try to talk to him... he won't hear you.
