Jenea and I are working on a project to create unique tarot decks
using digital collage. It's a great tool for learning the meanings
of the cards, and in the end you have a completely personal deck
loaded with personally powerful symbolism. While you're here, check out
Jenea's deck.
Click on one of the suits above to see the cards I have completed so far.
Disclaimer: Collage is
a difficult medium because of copyright issues.
Many of the images I am using are copyrighted material. There is no
easy way around this when using collage as an art form. Let me be
clear that these cards are for my own personal use, both in learning
the tarot and, eventually, for use in readings. The images are
presented on this web site only so that I may share my journey in the
tarot with my friends and family. If you feel I have infringed on your
copyrighted material, please let me know.

The high priestess is the knower of the unknown. She sits in the
world of dreams, secret knowledge, and deepest spiritual mystery. She
is passive, patient, and receptive to deeper knowledge. She uses her
intuition and imagination to guide her in the dark recesses of the
unconscious mind and soul. If the high priestess shows up in a
reading, she is telling you to look beyond the obvious, to unlock the
potential of your intuition or your dreams for the answer to your
question.
My high priestess is depicted as a wise child. She can see what
others cannot, and has never learned to doubt her intuition. You can
see the weight of many lifetimes in her eyes. The high priestess is
traditionally represented sitting between two pillars, representing
the light and dark sides of the soul. I have placed her between human
"pillars" of fire and ice, each holding a crystal ball. She is also
traditionally associated with the moon. In my image, she takes the
place of the new moon or dark moon, which is often associated with the
most mysterious aspects of femininity. The snake around her neck
whispers to her the truth of good and evil, and the apples in her lap
represent secret knowledge. The figs represent knowledge before
thought, because fig trees flower before they show leaves. She sits
passively, with all of the answers, and urges you to find your own
answers inside yourself.
